ValueError, TypeError in level set examples involving extendVariable object

Hi,

I am trying out the example problems in level set method. I am particularly
interested in the simpleTrenchSystem example. I am able to run all level
set example problems which do not involve a call to extendVariable.

I have anaconda installed on my system and I am using FiPy version 3.1.3. I
am using Python 2.7.15. My operating system is Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64
bit. Following the instructions in the manual, I have installed both
Scikit-fmm and LSMLIB packages.

I am attaching the screenshot of the errors

I get. Am I missing something here ? Any help is appreciated.

This problem has been fixed on our [develop branch](https://github.com/usnistgov/fipy/tree/develop) with
[this change](https://github.com/usnistgov/fipy/commit/f2a8fffb981d41e2de1cdd86972ff2d28c3effd2).

I hope to have a new release out very soon.
